Music is universal, a way to connect with people all across the world. There is a song out there for your every emotion whether it be excitement, sadness, anger, or something in between. Music is the language that bridges generational, race, and class gaps. Here at Cliché, we are big fans of the things that help bring people together, so naturally we are big fans of music. Often, the songs we love the most are the ones that were recommended to us by our friends. Here are three artists we are sure you’re going to love.
Tori Kelly
Fresh off of the success of her debut album Unbreakable Smile, Tori Kelly has been traveling around the country showing everyone who will listen why her album is selling like hot cakes. I found Tori’s music when she was just the girl on YouTube with the killer voice covering the hottest songs, like Frank Ocean’s “Thinking Bout You” and Justin Timberlake’s “Suit and Tie.” After releasing the All in My Head EP she mixed, wrote, and produced all on her own, Tori signed to Capital Records under her manager Scooter Braun, whose other clients include Justin Bieber, Amber Riley, and Ariana Grande. Her second EP titled Foreward was released in October 2013 just a month after she was signed. A mix of pop and R&B, Tori Kelly is placing herself in every music lover’s headphones, and before you know it, she’ll be in yours, too.
Alessia Cara
The 18-year-old American Canadian’s single “Here” went viral the day after its release. The song is about a party she went to and hated so much that she had her mother come and get her. Alessia first got the attention of YouTubers with her covers of Amy Winehouse’s “Valerie” and the Neighborhood’s “Sweater Weather,” which is still one of the highest viewed videos on her channel. She even made pop sensation Taylor Swift a fan when she covered “Bad Blood” for BBC Radio 1. “Here” will appear on her five-track debut EP Four Pink Walls under Def Jam Records scheduled for an August 28 release. Her EP will hold you over until the release of her debut album Know It All comes out in the fall.
Tink
Trinity Home, better known as “Tink,” is an American rapper with five mixtapes under her belt as of 2012. The 20-year-old’s debut album is set to release in 2015. Her new EP Winter’s Diary 3 proves that she is more than just a rapper. On this mixtape, she’s showing off her singing chops and proving that she is a double threat. The 10, sometimes explicit, track mixtape features songs like “L.E.A.S.H” which was produced by Timbaland. If you’re in the mood for some ’90s inspired R&B, this mixtape is the mixtape you’ve been waiting for.
