Whilst summer in the UK can bring some great weather the risk of sunburn rises, and with many brits indicating that they are more likely to protect their skin from the sun abroad as opposed to the UK, taking other less obvious precautions could be a great tactic to avert the damage of the sun’s rays without covering yourself in the factor 50.
Recent research compiled by sustainable clothing specialists Thought Clothing looked at some of the most popular summer fabrics and compared their relative protection against the sun in comparison to each other, the data revealed hemp to the top fabric with a UPF rating of 50, far greater than even some of the synthetic fabrics listed.
The data looked at 4 key fabrics, hemp, polyester, flax and linen. Whilst polyester had a strong UPF rating of 30, it was beaten to the top spot by hemp with a very impressive score. The data was compiled from various journals and research papers, the findings show that hemp could be the answer if you are looking for a summer wardrobe that will offer protection from the sun.
Does hemp make good dresses?
Hemp dresses are both stylish and functional and have a tonne of great benefits ranging from its ‘blendability’ with other fabrics to its visual benefits of texture and draping. Hemp is a sustainable material that requires fewer resources to grow compared to other natural fibres like cotton. It requires less water, pesticides, and herbicides, making it an eco-friendlier choice for fashion. By opting for a hemp dress, you can make a positive impact on the environment and contribute to a more sustainable fashion industry.
Hemp is naturally hypoallergenic and is less likely to cause skin irritations or allergic reactions compared to synthetic materials. This makes hemp dresses a comfortable and suitable option for individuals with sensitive skin.
