Jane Lynch is One Lucky Dog Commemorating the 25th Anniversary of “Best in Show”

Jane Lynch is One Lucky Dog Commemorating the 25th Anniversary of “Best in Show”

It’s said that all dogs go to heaven. As a dog lover, Jane Lynch lives every day in heaven with her furry friends. “This is Susie,” says Jane with a smile, pointing at the grey-muzzled angel perched upon her lap as we settle in for our conversation. “It’s like I didn’t live before I had dogs. I’m a big lover of them. I think they’re God’s gift to us. The unconditional love is just off the charts.”

Over her decades-long illustrious career, she’s had many covetable roles, but her appearance in the cult classic Best in Show has to be one of her most endearing. “I love dealing with the dogs in Best in Show, although they were professional dogs, so there wasn’t much scratching and they don’t really like you to touch them, but it did inspire me to get my first dog.” The comedy that satirized the multitude of idiosyncratic neuroses and larger than life characters that comprise the dog show circuit has been a cultural staple for the last 25 years. “Best in Show inspired the National Dog Show. It’s such a Thanksgiving tradition to watch Best in Show and to watch the National Dog Show. We thank Purina for that because it just really adds to the whole day. Best in Show really does hold up. If you ask somebody in the dog show world, ‘Did we portray the dog show world correctly?’ They say, ‘Yes, you were spot on, but I’m not like that at all.”

Purina is collaborating with Jane to celebrate Best in Show’s anniversary with dogs and their owners. To those who were deeply disturbed by Busy Bee’s notorious disappearance, a long awaited homecoming is here! “The same Busy Bee that Parker Posey was losing her mind over is here,” Jane announces, gesturing triumphantly to the elusive bee plushie on the bed behind her. “Purina has 2,500 of them that you can win in a sweepstakes along with a digital version of Best in Show. Download the MyPurina App and register to win by December 1st.”

Jane needs no encouragement to get into the holiday spirit! Festivities are all about tunes and friends. “I do a Christmas show every year called A Swingin’ Little Christmas with Kate Flannery from The Office. We go all over the country with a five piece band and we sing Christmas music. We’re in our 10th year and we also have an album by the same name.” The National Dog Show airs on NBC immediately following the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
