To kick off the official start to New York Fashion Week, we attended the Laurel DeWitt Fall/Winter 2014 Collection on February 6th. Without an empty seat in the house, the lovely and chain-draped models walked to music from Beyoncé’s settled album as the rest of the crowd watched the lustrous models in awe.
Laurel DeWitt is the queen of couture jewelry. From her chained mini dresses and plated metal armors to metal face masks, chain gloves, and suspenders, the articles of jewelry are only some of the pieces that make up the edgy and sexy collection. Using silver, gold, and black pieces, the collection had a very Egyptian/goddess presence; the models all looked like royalty as they were tastefully draped in chains. Out of the 25 different looks, our favorites were the women’s striped chain top and maxi skirt and the finale piece: a silver chain gown with matching gloves, arm pieces, and a luxurious crown. We caught up with Laurel DeWitt backstage after the show where the designer told us she prefers gold over silver and was very happy with the show’s outcome. A few of the attendees were 105.1’s Angela Yee and Swizz Beatz and his son Egypt who were there to support Kasseem Dean Jr., Swizz’s son, as he modeled pieces from DeWitt’s youth collection.
After chatting with DeWitt, we headed uptown to The London NYC, the #1 preferred hotel of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, for a drink. The lavish London Bar was full of beautiful people who most likely just came back from a busy day #1 of New York Fashion. It was nice to relax with a glass of pinot grigio and look through photos of the event.
