Are there any projects that you are working on besides Lost Girl?
Yes. I have a film company and I am developing character-driven projects. It’s nice to be wrapped and have some time to do that now because, in the past, I tried to juggle Lost Girl and other projects, but our schedule is so insane that we barely have time to sleep or decompress. I’m just excited to experience new things.
Are there any kinds of roles you hope to do in the future?
Of course! The list is very long. I guess at this point it’s turned into a novel. I would definitely love to do period pieces. That has always been a dream of mine, but mainly I strive to work on great projects with great actors and directors that I admire.
When not acting, what do you like to do with your free time?
I love to travel. There is nothing quite like being in a completely different time zone and culture. My dream is to travel the world, but it may take me a while.
What makes me happy is getting time to do simple things like being able to see my family or spend time with my friends. I love dancing. I love doing yoga and going to the park with my dog.
I am also involved with Stand For The Silent, an anti-bullying organization, and I am an advocate for the End Polio Now movement and work closely with Global Health Strategies.
What advice would you give someone, whether they are going into acting, art, or trying to find their passion?
I think a very valuable lesson that I’ve learned is to never take “no” for an answer. I know that we have all heard that a million times before, but it’s really true. When you believe in something, when you want something, you really have to work hard and not let anyone tell you that you can’t do it.
Something that I’ve been focusing on lately is that it’s great to have dreams and goals, but I think that it is incredibly important to map out how you are going to achieve those dreams and goals. It’s not okay to just sit around and wait for things to come to you. It’s important to work hard and be dedicated and not wait for things to appear at your doorstep. If you really want something, you go out and get it.
