From ”Yellowjackets” to What/If: How Dani Calogera Builds Standout Entertainment Brands

From ”Yellowjackets” to What/If: How Dani Calogera Builds Standout Entertainment Brands

When you think about your favorite show or ad, what do you remember? As one of the architects behind viral marketing campaigns for more than 200 television shows including Yellowjackets and Shameless, Dani Calogera knows how to make things stick.

Start by actually tuning into your consumer. “Nobody likes to be shouted at,” she says. “The best brands stay in a two-way conversation with both culture and the audience. They pick up on what you’re feeling, turn it into something tangible and hand it back to you, whether that’s a product that makes your life better or a campaign that really speaks to you. At the core, we universally want to feel seen and understood. Great brands get that.”

Intuitiveness must not be underestimated on either side. “A great brand or campaign starts with knowing who you’re talking with, not at,” Calogera adds. “My simple gut check is the dinner-table test: would someone bring this up with friends over dinner or drop it in the group chat? If yes, we’ve struck a chord.”

Case in point: During her tenure at SHOWTIME, she fueled Yellowjackets Season 1 and 2 to be among the most buzzed about television shows at the time.

As she ventures into building brand studio What/If Co—named after the question that sparks every creative leap—Dani wants character & creativity to be the guiding force of how she chooses projects. “I will always choose the people first. If you put brilliant, values-aligned talent in the same room, the project almost doesn’t matter. It’ll be magic.” Still, she’s “a nerd about the convergence of world building and business building” and dreams of joining a visionary creator at year zero to architect a decade‑long, multi‑platform franchise.

With marketing teams shrinking across Hollywood, her goal for What/If is to field ‘Avengers of entertainment’ squads that plug straight into a creative partner’s vision. “Be the partner who understands the creative and amplifies it—that’s success to me.” If she’s building the Avengers, Dani might just be the Iron Man of campaigns.
