A Netflix Original, BoJack Horseman is an animated series that focuses on the life of BoJack, a washed up actor who found fame starring in a ’90s sitcom. This often hilarious and sometimes heartbreaking series takes its viewers through a whirlwind of scenarios as we experience the life of BoJack Horseman. Season 3 of the series was just released and is already receiving praise. Here are some of the best moments of season 3, streaming on Netflix now.
2007 Throwback
Who doesn’t love a good throwback? An important episode, this flashback to 2007 let us see how BoJack and Princess Carolyn’s romantic relationship formed and gave us a backstory on “The BoJack Horseman Show” and why it failed. While learning these backstories, we got the chance to laugh at cheesy 2007 trends that seem like they were cool just yesterday, while simultaneously making us feel incredibly old. Either way, it was a hilarious walk down memory lane.
The New BoJack
After getting his act together in season 2, BoJack lands his dream role as Secretariat. As BoJack is gaining his success back, we see his struggles with fame and truly finding happiness. In season 3, we learn that BoJack may be nominated for an Oscar for his role. We get to see BoJack as what Princess Carolyn refers to as “a bonafide movie star.” He’s surrounded by admirers, partying and having a great time. However, we also see BoJack learn the hard way that people, and fame, are fickle.
A comedy that deals with social issues
BoJack Horseman uses its dark humor and satire to actually address larger social issues. Season 3 continues this theme when in Episode 3 SeaWorld is put on blast. The show takes a twist on the SeaWorld controversy by comparing going to SeaWorld to going to the strip club. Throwing money at abused animals to watch them perform is used to address the issues with throwing money at women to perform.
Poking fun at Hollywood
BoJack Horseman is a show always poking fun at Hollywood. Season 3 doesn’t disappoint. Between Mr. Peanutbutter’s obnoxious and delusional thinking that he’s a star, to the flashy Academy parties and snobby Oscar voters, we get to laugh a little at some of the over-the-top Hollywood ways.
Complex Characters that keep getting more complex
The best part about season 3 is that we get to delve deeper into the complexities of many of the characters, and continue to learn more about them. It may be an emotional ride seeing the backstories of many of the characters, but it’s a great one.
BoJack Horseman is a series not to miss, and season 3 surely doesn’t disappoint. Check out the trailer below.
