If there’s anything we love at Cliché, it’s rising talent, especially passionate rising talent emerging from the bustling metropolis of New York City. Singer/songwriter Shayna Leigh is all that, and more. After performing in 2013 to sold-out crowds at The Living Room, Bitter End, and Rockwood Music Hall to name a few, and after being deemed “a triumph” by Aquarian Weekly, this heart-of-gold music artist has just released her second EP, Hey Shayna Leigh, which she worked on with Grammy-winning producer Michael Mangini, Peter Zizzo, and Steely Dan’s Gary Katz.
“There is a power that comes from putting yourself out there and standing up for who you are, scary as it is,” Leigh explains about her new EP. “To me, these songs are all in some way about being brave enough to consistently fight for your dreams.”
“Crash,” the fourth track off the new EP, is a song about “taking risks… in any area of your life (in your career, in relationships, even in the way you’re choosing to spend a day…).” Leigh tells Cliché, “It’s about acknowledging the possibility of defeat, but choosing to take action anyway. Maybe you will need to “fail” before you succeed… Maybe you need to crash before you fly… Risk the crash for the chance to fly.”
