Nearly one year after Coldplay released their heartbroken album Ghost Stories comes its colorful, energetic follow-up, A Head Full of Dreams, due out December 4 via Parlophone Records. And much unlike Ghost Stories, Coldplay plans to take this seventh album around the world.
In an interview last year with BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe, Chris Martin implied A Head Full of Dreams was the band’s final album—or, at least, the end of something.
“It’s our seventh thing, and the way we look at it, it’s like the last Harry Potter book or something like that,” Martin said. “Not to say that there might not be another thing one day, but this is the completion of something.”
He then added, “We have to think of it as the final thing we’re doing. Otherwise we wouldn’t put everything into it.”
According to the band, they “have never enjoyed making a record more than this one, nor have they been happier with the results,” and this certainly shows in their first colorful single, “Adventure of a Lifetime.”
So far, it seems Coldplay have taken a turn from the melancholy (though beautiful) sound of their previous album to an exciting, hopeful declaration of love and life. And with featured guests including Beyoncé, Tove Lo, and Noel Gallagher, we can’t wait to hear what else is in store!
