After the release of his debut EP, Braveheart, on October 28, indie soul-pop artist Ray Hodge is ready for the world to hear (and see) even more. As a follow-up to his empowering videos for “I Am King” and “Voodoo,” which were received with great acclaim from Afropunk and The Source, Ray Hodge is taking on a song that is very dear to him: “Rise” by Katy Perry. And it’s one powerful performance.
“I chose to cover ‘Rise’ by Katy Perry because it resonates with my EP, Braveheart,” explains Hodge. “The song is like a new chapter to me, when you’re rising from the feelings of loneliness and hurt, and down for the fight for oneself and rising from the ground after pushing and falling for so long. I chose it because it’s about not giving up.”
Not giving up is certainly a recurring theme on his EP, Braveheart. From songs about faith, strength, and learning to love yourself, Braveheart is the EP everyone needs right now, and “Rise” is the perfect extension of that.

The video was produced by Alexa San Roman (Heirsound, Love Robot) and the track instrumentation and production was done by Mikey Cross. Be sure to also check out Ray Hodge’s mini-documentary about the making of Braveheart on Singersroom, and keep up to date with him on Facebook and Twitter.
