Today we want to share some important steps to take after a car wreck. There is nothing quite as stressful as a car accident, but a car accident that isn’t your fault is tough to swallow. We don’t necessarily mean that you and someone else were behind the wheels of the car – you could be a passenger, but the car wreck still wasn’t your fault and you need to know what to do after one happens.
You can file your rideshare accident lawsuit, but that’s not the first thing that you do when the car is wrecked. It’s a scary experience to be in a car that hits another one even when it’s just a small knock. That small knock can rock your confidence enough to not want to get behind the wheel of a car ever again – let alone be a passenger! So, if you’ve been involved in an accident and you were the passenger, here’s what we think you should do:
- Start assessing the situation. The biggest priority for you when you’ve been in a car accident is to assess your body and the world around you. Are there other passengers who may be injured? Are there issues that stop you from leaving the car? Is there major damage to the point you cannot move to the side of the road? All of these things will determine whether you are able to be safe getting out of the situation.
- Move somewhere safe. If you are able to, you should move to the safe side of the road. If you were not able to get out of the car, then you should think about calling for help in some way. Whether you do this with your phone or you shout out to ask for help from someone in or near the car, you need support. If there are any issues with debris on the road, try to move it out of the way so that you don’t cause any further accidents yourself.
- Get the details of others around you. If you’re in a shared car that’s been in an accident, you need to get the details for everyone around you to be able to lodge a complaint with the police and the hospital. You need to speak to a lawyer to determine whether you have a claim for insurance, too. If you’ve been injured, you need to think about getting compensation for that.
- Speak to others involved. If anyone else out there witnessed the crash, then you need to talk to them about it to find out whether there will be any disputes on your claim. Take some photos and record some people who witnessed the accident if you can because the one thing that you want to do is get backed up where you can. You need to know that the witnesses can corroborate any claims that you make and photos and records can and will help.
Car accidents can be terrifying but when you know what to do, you can ensure that you have a good outcome.
