How To Feel More Comfortable When Working Out

How To Feel More Comfortable When Working Out

Today we’d like to provide tips on how to feel more comfortable when working out. We’d all like to feel a little more comfortable in our bodies, and often is the case that we feel the least comfortable when working out. Working out or doing exercise doesn’t really result in a nice feeling when you’re all hot and sweaty after twenty minutes of hot yoga or a session of weight training in the gym. How you feel when working out is often down to what you’re wearing.

For some, it might be the wrong material, and for others, it might be a case of wearing something that’s not big enough for the shape or size of the body.

There are also other reasons that might contribute to how you feel in the gym, like doing too much or not feeling confident to go into a gym space on your own. Here are a few ways to feel more comfortable when working out.

Start off gradually

When it comes to feeling more comfortable, it’s all about the pace at which you start to work out. If you’re going full throttle from the start, then you’re likely to do some damage to your body, let alone find yourself in a bit of discomfort.

Look at how you could gradually start off with exercise so that you’re not doing too much too soon. Focus on one or two classes or sessions per week, and then slowly build up how much you’re doing so that it doesn’t feel like such a shock to the system.

Naturally, you’ll find yourself becoming more comfortable as you work out, which makes a big difference when you’re just starting out.

Find a workout buddy

A workout buddy is a great way of getting a lot more out of exercise, especially if you’re someone who struggles with self-confidence in new settings like the gym or an exercise class.

When you have someone with you who can hold you accountable for simply showing up, that can be a great way of keeping yourself fit while also being more comfortable in these spaces.

A workout buddy could be your best friend, your partner, or a family member. It could even be a work colleague if you’re pals with someone that you work with. Ultimately, though, they need to be someone who is keen to work out and will show up when you need them, and vice versa.

Wear the right type of clothing

The right type of clothing is certainly an important and influential part of getting the best out of every exercise or workout that you do. When you wear the right clothing, you instantly become a lot more confident and comfortable within yourself. There’s nothing better than having the right item of clothing to dress your body so that you feel comfortable enough to work out.

Wear clothes that allow for easier movement, that have stretch but are also breathable. While that might seem like a hard task, there’s plenty of clothing nowadays that’s worth the investment you pay for when it comes to active wear like Eden Ashram, for example.

Make exercise fun and choose what you love doing

In order to get the most out of exercise, you should look to do something that’s fun and not simply because it’s been recommended to you by a friend or family member. If you end up doing what someone else has recommended and you don’t enjoy it, then you shouldn’t just continue it because you haven’t explored anything else.

There’s a whole load of exercises and fun classes to get involved with, it’s just making sure to find the right one for you. Consider what might be the best for you, and don’t feel like you need to stick with something that isn’t fulfilling you anymore. Just like other things in life, you can outgrow a sport or class you’ve been doing for a while now.

Focus on the progress

Progress is definitely something you want to try and focus on when it comes to getting the most out of your workout. The reason is that you can often get lost in that current feeling of uneasiness, and that can tap you out of working out for longer as a result.

Mix in the feeling of being uncomfortable, and you’re probably not getting the most out of all your workouts. Instead, focus on the progress instead of how you feel in the moment. When you’ve got a plan or goals in place, then you’re more likely to find success as a result.

Make time for the warm-ups and warm-downs

To help ensure you’re getting the most out of your exercise, you’ll want to try and make time for the warm-ups and the warm-downs. These are essential because they’ll help keep your body in good shape and avoid any damage being done as a result of not warming up the muscles or cooling them down after a workout.

When you’re not feeling comfortable, it’s often because you’ve not warmed up properly, and by not doing so, you’re likely going to cause yourself more damage as a result.

Listen to your body and be kind to yourself

Being kind and listening to your body is something more of us need to do in life. When you’re exercising, you want to be mindful of how much effort you’re putting in and how much damage you might do by overexerting yourself. Try to manage your expectations while also doing enough so that you’re getting a good workout.

You also want to be kind to yourself when it comes to your body. Listen to yourself and how you talk about your body in general. Is it positive? If not, then that could be what’s leading to a lot of that discomfort in your body. Our own words can often do a lot of damage to our self-confidence, so change your attitude towards yourself for a more positive viewpoint.

Feeling more comfortable when working out is important, so use these tips to make sure you feel good working out at all times.
