How To Style Your LBD This Season

The festive season is almost here, and whilst shopping for a different outfit for each upcoming event would be wonderful, most of us simply don’t have the time or the finances. Fortunately, what many of us do have is a little black dress. The LBD has remained a staple in most women’s wardrobes for ninety years, ever since Coco Chanel published a sketch in a 1926 edition of Vogue. According to an article by Voucherbox, the LBD became even more famous when Audrey Hepburn appeared in the iconic movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and has since become a must-have for women around the world.

So, if you have an LBD in mind – ASOS has some incredible options – or in your closet, now is the time to start planning your festive outfits!

Halloween

halloweenThere’s no need to fear the Halloween party this year because you have everything you need to create a frighteningly fantastic costume in your wardrobe and your LBD is your secret weapon. As mentioned above, Audrey Hepburn made the LBD a true fashion staple so this Halloween why not pair your little black dress with some pearls and a carry around a cute tea cup?
If you’re good with makeup, there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube where you can learn how to recreate the creepy doll look using liquid eyeliner and pale foundation, or you could even attempt a sugar skull look if you want to use up those eyeshadow shades you usually never touch. Both of these will go perfectly with your LBD, creating a fun yet effortless look plus if you’re not too great at makeup Halloween is the only holiday where you can get away with it. Alternatively, you can be a magician, a cat, Wednesday Adams, a 1920s flapper girl, a scarecrow plus a multitude of other things and all you need is your LBD.

The Christmas Work Party

christmas-partySpeaking of scary events, you’re sure to be invited to a Christmas work party at some point in the near future. Whilst you’re more than welcome to go as a cat to this as well if you really want to, we recommend you go for a slightly more elegant look.  Slip into your classiest LBD – it could even be a work attire – then jazz it up a little bit by adding bold gold accessories and merry red accents. A crimson belt and/or burgundy nails are sure to add a little color to your outfit, and if you’re feeling particularly flashy you could even wear a colored blazer over your LBD to make your outfit pop.
Tights are also a great option if you’re a little apprehensive about having your legs out in the office, and though sheer is always super now is your chance to wear some high-street patterns like polka dots or even stripes.

Christmas Day

christmas-dayWe all wish we could just spend Christmas Day in our pajamas but occasionally we actually have to go out in public for a meal or a party. Still, there’s no reason you can’t be classy, Christmassy and comfy.
Instead of piling on loads of heavy accessories or being restricted by a belt, try pairing one statement necklace with your LBD for an effortless look. A cardigan is also a great call for Christmas Day events as you can cover any food-induced bloating that’s bound to occur.

Finally, there’s New Year’s Eve when you can finally let your hair down and be as wild with your outfit as you want to be. This is the time of year where you get to wear your most fashionable, tallest heels that sparkle and carry your sequin clutch with pride. Chances are you got some jewelery over the holiday season as well, so why not wear your favorite new pieces?
With so many awesome accessories, your LBD is the perfect base to ensure you don’t go overboard and end up looking like you’ve gone to the VIP section as a unicorn.
