All Comes From Nothing SS16

Recently deemed “art world uniform” by Guggenheim’s associate digital director JiaJia Fei, the new ready-to-wear SS16 collection from All Comes From Nothing is every subtle print lover’s dream. Designer Eva Yiwei Xu collaborated with her collection’s muse, artist Corina Nika (COCORRINA), to create this line, which includes fun, paintbrush-like prints on maxi skirts and subtle pops of grey prints in the lining of wide-leg pants.

“Corina is the first one I thought of when I define ACFN women,” said Xu. “She is determined to experience life and the world as it is.”

Xu went on to say that Corina is the type of woman who “has reached a point in her life where she knows herself deeply,” and this is what Xu kept in mind while creating the line.

“With her rooted identity, she welcomes everything in life with open arms,” Xu explained of Corina, and the women she has in mind for ACFN. “Both pleasant and challenging moments are savored equally since each play a special role in life’s deep unfolding.”

Creative designer and typographer Corina Nika, who is currently living on Kefalonia Island, is very passionate about incorporating her peaceful lifestyle into her work. “Patterns, shapes, colors—they define how we feel, our emotions,” said Nika. She used smooth lines and curves to create an architectural feel, and used black and grey as a clean, airy base. “Then orange came along, powerful, passionate—the color of creativity, fascination, and attraction,” she explained.

“[Corina’s] work is so refreshing and relaxing, you can almost feel the breeze from the ocean,” said Xu about her muse. And we couldn’t agree more. The lookbook features model Jennifer Pugh wearing the minimal, sculpted pieces on the beach, which was a point of inspiration for Xu.

“I tried to imagine, if I were her, what would my life be like?” said Xu.

To keep the pieces simple enough to mix and match, as well as transition from day to night, Xu used the prints very wisely. “I hide the prints in the seams in some of the pieces, so sometimes you only see peeks of them when you walk,” Xu explained. “I wanted to use them in a way that’s not too crazy, but is still something new.”

All Comes From Nothing’s previous Fall 2015 collection is also available at Bene Rialto in New York City.
