5 First-Time Vaping Tips for Non-Smokers

5 First-Time Vaping Tips for Non-Smokers

You don’t have to be an ex-smoker to vape. Many people who vape have never smoked a cigarette in their lives. They started vaping because they enjoyed the experience. You can taste interesting blends with many flavours available while joining a community. In fact, someone who smokes will probably find it easier to vape.

Vaping can be intimidating with so much to choose from, like vape pens and vape juice. All the terminology and technology can add to the confusion. Don’t worry, just follow these first-time vaping tips for non-smokers, and you’ll get the hang of it quickly.

Here are the first-time vaping tips for non-smokers:

Choose Your Vape Kit

With vaping popularity increasing every day, there is now an overwhelming number of different vape pens on the market. Some are for novices, while others are for seasoned pros. As a beginner and non-smoker, we recommend a simple vape kit. A vape pen or pod system vape will be much easier for a beginner than a more complicated box mod starter kit.

Vape pens don’t require much upkeep and are easy to use. You can typically buy one for under $100. As a non-smoker, you’ll especially want to avoid a nicotine salt device, which, as the name states, is for nicotine online.

Choose Your Vape Juice

Now, a smoker who transitions to vaping will want different vape juice than a non-smoker. After all, they may be trying to quit smoking and, as such, will want to reduce the amount of nicotine in their vape juice over time. They might also want a non-flavoured vape juice to simulate smoking more effectively.

What you need to know as a non-smoker when selecting vape juice is twofold. First, you’ll want to choose 0% nicotine vape juice so you can enjoy vaping without getting accidentally addicted to nicotine. Second, your vaping experience will be more pleasurable when you choose a flavour you love.

We recommend trying different flavours until you narrow down your favourite. Switching up flavours occasionally is an excellent idea to keep vaping fun and exciting. It can also help you prevent “vaper’s tongue,” a scenario where vapers no longer taste their e-juice. You never know when you’ll get sick of your first chosen flavour and when you’ll find your favourite in green apple, cotton candy, or any other flavour combination.

Inhaling Vapor

While inhaling vapour is not as hard as inhaling cigarette smoke, it takes some getting used to. As a non-smoker, vaping throat hits might feel harsh and make you cough.

To ease into vaping, start by taking small hits. You can also reduce the harshness of the throat hit by using vape juice with a higher ratio of vegetable glycerin to propylene glycol. Different types of vape juice come in various ratios. Vegetable glycerin provides a smoother vaping experience.

You’ll want to know about three types of hits to learn how to properly take a hit from a vape pen. In a mouth-to-lung (MTL) hit, you would first draw the vapour into your mouth before taking it into your lungs. This is how smokers inhale, so it’s most often used with high-nicotine juices. In a direct-to-lung hit (DTL), you inhale the vapour directly into your lungs. This is a common hit for non-nicotine juices, so you might want to try it out.

Finally, there’s the restricted direct-to-lung (RDL) hit, similar to the direct-to-lung hit but with slight airflow resistance. It’s ideal for medium-strength vape juice. You can also opt out of inhaling altogether by choosing a cigar puff instead. In this case, you’re not technically inhaling the vapour into your lungs.

Vape Maintenance

The better you maintain your vaping device, the better your vaping experience can be. If you don’t keep your vape tank, you’ll notice a foul taste from the residue of old vape juice at the bottom of the tank. Ideally, you’ll clean your tank with soap and water every time you refill it.

If the vape pen comes with disposable coils, you will want to follow the instructions on changing the coil regularly, or your vape will taste burnt. Start your vape juice properly, too, to prolong its shelf life. Avoid storing it in a hot area like your car, and avoid direct sunlight, too.

Avoid Chain Vaping

Beginners often fall into the chain vaping trap. Excited about your new hobby, you might puff on your vape pen multiple times without a break. Unlike a cigarette, a vape pen requires some time between hits to saturate with liquid. Wait 30 seconds between hits to avoid dry hits, prevent coil burnout, and harm your device.
