It’s so exciting to think about what you could be doing with a brand new home design after you’ve signed your contract for land. If you’ve bought the land and you’re ready to start designing the house you want to build on top of it, you need to think about what type of design is going to add more opportunities in enjoying a house for life.
This is your chance to create something that you and your family can either grow into or can live in forever. While you might want to consider modular building as an economical way to live, the exterior design that you consider for your home can become quite overwhelming if you’re not planning it properly. If you’re looking to build a house, here are some of the things that you should consider about the design of the exterior.
1. You need to find the right type of windows. You wouldn’t believe it, but there is a lot to consider when it comes to the windows of your home.. Do you choose the bay window vs bow window? Do you choose floor to ceiling or skinny windows to add little light? You shouldn’t overlook the types of windows that you’ll choose because they’re going to work in more ways than one. On an aesthetic level, the windows are going to enhance the appearance of your home, whether it’s on the beach or on a country theme. If your house is on the beach, then choosing windows that are enlarged is going to really add some amazing natural light. In the country, large feature windows are perfect if you want to enjoy the view. Take your window design seriously.
2. Consider the roof. You might not think about the roof normally or what it does to improve the exterior of your home, but it does matter more than you think. Your roof is going to last between 10 to 20 years, and you want to make sure that wherever you’re living, it’s going to keep the weather out and keep you comfortable inside. The appearance of your roof should also be considered, especially how it affects the interior. High pitched roofs, for example, never fail to bring more spaciousness to the inside of your home. You also need to consider the material that you choose. If you’re living in a hot climate, a metal roof is going to help to keep the inside of your home cool.
3. Think about a verandah. If you’re trying to create that country living atmosphere of your home, a veranda is going to capture that essence that you’d be looking for. It’s bringing more style than a regular awning or even a pergola. So make sure that you choose a veranda that offers a wide sweeping deck. This allows you to bring that outdoor area in and extend the interior of your home to the outside.
4. Think about the cladding. After you think about your roof, your windows, and your veranda, what material are you going to use for the exterior of your home? All traditional materials can lead to energy efficiency challenges, so think about the cladding that you choose and make sure that you’re choosing something that’s fireproof.
