Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on a September night at the Crowne Plaza in New York City, award-winning designer Nina Gleyzer presented her Spring 2015 “Nostalgie: Le Fin Mot” collection to an over-booked audience of bright-eyed press, friends, and fans alike. The Couture Fashion Week guests sat or stood with their DSLRs or camera phones poised and raised, ready to capture Gleyzer’s farewell runway show on film.
The collection—which strays from Gleyzer’s usual all-black scheme to a more colorful palette of green, gold, and red—is a nod to Gleyzer’s two greatest loves: France, and 1950’s women fashion. It also reflects on a time when women pampered themselves in front of vanities before meeting up with close friends for social occasions. “That’s how I envision women: chic, elegant… simplistic,” says Gleyzer.
Some looks were accessorized with headpieces by Natalya Bythewood, and featured beautiful scalloped, pleated, or full dresses and skirts with feminine patterns and silk. Although Gleyzer will no longer be doing runway shows, she will continue creating collections on her website, www.ninascouture.com.
