Two stars of the hit Bravo TV show Real Housewives of New Jersey, Giuseppe“Joe” Giudice and his wife Teresa Giudice, faced court today and received some heavy sentences.
According to Huffington Post, Joe, the first to be judged in court today, was sentenced to 41 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution of $414,588 on bank and bankruptcy fraud charges. Upon his sentence completion, Joe also faces potential deportation, as he is an Italian citizen.
Teresa received a sentence of 15 months in prison, a restitution payment of $414,588, and 2 years of probation.
That’s right; both Real Housewives of New Jersey stars face jail time.
The cases’ judge, U.S. District Court Judge Esther Salas, also reprimanded the Giudices for leaving out information on the financial disclosure forms that the couple submitted in August, which apparently did not include several of their valuable possessions such as construction equipment and vehicles.
The couple was indicted last July on 39 counts including “conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, making false statements on loan applications and bankruptcy fraud.” They also reportedly filed false information in order to obtain $5 million in loans and mortgages, and Joe did not file tax returns for four years, between 2014 and 2008, for his income of over $990,000. In November 2013, the pair also were charged with two more counts of fraud.
To these charges, Teresa plead guilty to four and Joe to five.
In the midst of their sentencing, one ruling that the Giudices can be grateful for: Teresa and Joe do not have to serve their sentences at the same time so their children will not have to be without a parent.
Teresa will begin her prison sentence on January 5.
