It’s officially over. Paula Patton filed for divorce from Robin Thicke.

According to People, on October 3, Patton filed the divorce papers in Los Angeles, stating “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their failed marriage. The Precious actress also asked for joint custody of the pair’s 4-year-old son, Julian Fuego.

Patton and Thicke had met when he was only 14 years old and later married in 2005, but recently their 9-year marriage has been falling apart. After the announcement of their separation in February, Thicke has publicly apologized to his wife. In March, People reported the “Blurred Lines” singer stating, “I want everybody here to know that I’m trying to get my girl back.” Thicke even titled his latest album, Paula, after his wife.

Unfortunately, it seems his public apologies were not met with forgiveness.

And just what was Thicke apologizing for? It’s unclear. According to Time, Thicke stated, “I told my wife the truth. That’s why she left me.”

Maybe his rumored drug and alcohol abuse has something to do with the divorce. According to Time, Thicke also said, “Every day I woke up, I would take a Vicodin to start the day and then I would fill up a water bottle with vodka and drink it before and during my interviews.”

Or the divorce could have something to do with the rumors of his infidelity; ever since he performed with Miley Cyrus at the MTV Music Video Awards last summer, people have speculated how faithful Thicke has been to his wife.

Whatever the reason, surely this is a difficult time for both Thicke, Patton, and their young son.
