A Summer of Netflix Originals

Table of Contents

Like I imagine many others do, when my favorite shows are done for the season, I turn to Netflix to feed my television addiction. Not only can I find older seasons to my favorite network shows, but Netflix originals are my newest obsession. I’ve made my way through House of Cards and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, so now it’s time to check out some more Netflix originals. Here are the next four I intend on getting through (also including ones out this summer).
Peaky Blinders
I’m a history buff and any show that deals with historical events automatically gets my attention. Peaky Blinders follows a criminal gang living in Birmingham, England following World War I and is inspired by the real-life Peaky Blinders, a street gang from the 19th century. Accents and action? You don’t have to say more.
Two seasons now on Netflix
Daredevil
This is a bit of a cheat since I’ve already started the show, but this list wouldn’t be complete without it. I am a big Marvel and DC fan and follow along with as many of the shows based on those comics that I can. Daredevil has consistently blown my mind with the passing of each episode. The show is dark and often brutal, but that’s what draws me in because there are constant surprises. I can’t wait to finish this season.
One season now on Netflix
Bloodline
Shifting timelines, familial drama, mystery, secrets, Kyle Chandler—I’m intrigued. Bloodline focuses on the secrets of one family down in the Florida Keys and what they do when their secrets are threatened to be exposed. The show has been garnering a ton of buzz and positive reviews, which makes me even more excited to check it out.
One season now on Netflix
Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp
I’m counting down the days until this show’s July 17 release date. Featuring much of the original cast of 2001’s Wet Hot American Summer, this eight-episode miniseries is a prequel to that film’s events. The cast is brilliant in every way, and I have high hopes that this series will crack me up—a far cry from the darker shows I seem to focus much of my time on.
Release Date: July 17
Honorable Mention
A special shoutout to Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones, which is supposed to premiere sometime this year. The show follows Jessica Jones, a superhero who turns to the detective life after a tragic end to her former career. As I mentioned before, I’m a massive Marvel fan, so I can’t wait to see this story come to life!
Release Date: 2015
