As AFROTECH previously told you, Ford had worked at the Las Vegas McCarran International Airport’s Burger King for 27 years without missing a day of work.
In recognition of his hard work and dedication, he received a goodie bag, complete with a movie ticket, candy, a Starbucks cup, a lanyard, two pens, and two keychains in 2022.
“The manager at the time, who I love, she went and got me a piece of cake and said ‘Happy Anniversary,’” he told USA Today. “A few days after that, they brought me a goodie bag and presented it to me. I was happy to get that because there’s people who have worked there for 30 and 35 years and they didn’t get anything.”
Donations have surpassed the projected goal of $450,000, with more than 14,800 donations as of this writing, according to the GoFundMe page.
Ford’s life has completely transformed since the overwhelming display of generosity. One of his first priorities was to allocate a portion of the funds to his family, which helped his daughter purchase a home, Today reports.
“They truly saved my life,” Ford told USA Today about the influx of donations. “They’ve caught me up in life. I believe everybody should have savings for their children and their future. They made that dream come true for me.”
Improving his own life, Ford purchased a second car, paid off his debts while saving for retirement, and most recently he became a homeowner. According to TMZ, Ford reportedly purchased a three-bedroom home in Pahrump, NV.
“I know it’s not a mansion, but it’s mine. I want to thank everyone all around the world for what you’ve done for me,” Ford expressed in a video shared on TikTok. “Something I never thought would be possible for me — homeownership.”
He continued, “Now, my kids and my grandkids have some place to come visit. I just want to thank everybody for being a part of this miracle and for everything you’ve done for me and you continue to do for me everyday. This is truly an American Dream. It’s a Christmas miracle.”
Ford is still working at Burger King, and his job is a one-hour commute from his newest home. He’s still only missed one day of work, and it was for a “Today Show” appearance in 2023.
