Rookie Wembanyama, drafted by the San Antonio Sputs in 2023 as a No. 1 draft pick, sported the debut game jersey in October when the team competed against the Dallas Mavericks.
“This ‘Rookie Debut Game’ jersey was worn in the first game of Victor Wembanyama’s NBA career. It was also the first home game of his career, and additionally he registered his first Slam Dunk in this jersey,” Sotheby’s explained on its company’s website. “Worn on October 25, 2023, when the San Antonio Spurs played the Dallas Mavericks, ‘Wemby’ finished with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block. The Spurs lost to the Mavericks, 126-119. This jersey was worn during the 2nd half of the game.”
According to ESPN, the jersey went for auction at Sotheby’s and sold for an impressive $762,000 on Tuesday, Nov. 21. This surpassed original projections, which were estimated to be between $80,000 and $120,000. The outlet also notes the jersey sparked one of the “highest levels of participation for a sports memorabilia auction at Sotheby’s.”

Wembanyama is making quite the impression in his early career days in the league, averaging 18.6 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, per TMZ.
