Angel Reese Becomes An Investor In The DC Power FC Alongside 2 Black Women Powerhouses And Other Business Leaders

Angel Reese is among a trio of powerhouse Black women who are now investors in the DC Power Football Club.

The Maryland native and current Chicago Sky player is already making strategic business moves in her rookie year. In May 2024 Reese joined an ownership group for the  DC Power Football Club, a new professional women’s soccer team based in Washington, DC, as AFROTECH™ previously reported.

“I want to help grow women’s sports and elevate female athletes across the board,” Reese said in a statement, per Sportico. “We’re taking over, and I’m honored to be able to support Power FC and invest in women’s soccer in the DMV community.”

Jason Levien, D.C. United’s CEO and co-chairman, commented:

“Angel’s decision to be a founding investor alongside us in Power FC is groundbreaking. As a Maryland native, Angel is so passionate about being a catalyst for positive change in women’s sports in the DMV as well as globally while inspiring the next generation of female athletes. We’re looking forward to her partnership in the boardroom as an equity partner.”

Janice Adams

Joining Reese in ownership is DMV business leader Janice Adams. According to a news release, she has been instrumental within the local community, known for her philanthropy and efforts through her company JMA Solution, LLC.

“Having spent most of my post-military life immersed in the DMV community, the news of the Super League and the addition of another professional women’s team in the region deeply resonated with me,” explained Adams, who retired from the U.S. Air Force as a chief master sergeant after 24 years. “In 2024, women have access to fewer than half of the professional playing opportunities available to men in this country. This disparity extends to the fans keen to support women’s soccer in the DMV. This project marks a new pathway for female athletes and women’s sports enthusiasts in the area. We are thrilled to embark on this journey. I am honored to be part of this ownership group dedicated to creating fresh and captivating opportunities for female athletes and fans alike.”

Crystal Renee Hayslett

Crystal Renee Hayslett, an actress, singer, and producer known for her TV role in BET’s “Sistas,” is also part of the group. Her diverse background in entertainment has the opportunity to energize the fan base and enhance their overall engagement.

“Moving to DC, away from my hometown in Martin, TN, for the first time, opened my eyes to the endless possibilities life had for me,”  Hayslett said in the press release. “This comes full circle — returning to the city to pour into the community that was so instrumental in my life. It’s energizing to be part of such a dynamic ownership group advancing women’s sports and celebrating DC’s deeply vibrant culture.”

Additional Investors

DC Power Football Club’s newest investors also include MLB Nationals pitcher Josiah Gray and NHL Washington Capitals center Hendrix Lapierre, as well as local business leaders Devin Talbott and Jordan Stuart.
