In January 2024, the golf legend parted ways with Nike after a 27-year partnership, as previously shared by AFROTECH.
“Over 27 years ago, I was fortunate to start a partnership with one of the most iconic brands in the world,” Woods shared in an X, formerly Twitter, post at the time of the announcement. “The days since have been filled with so many amazing moments and memories, if I started naming them, I could go on forever.”
He continued, “[Former Nike CEO] Phil Knight’s passion and vision brought this Nike and Nike Golf partnership together and I want to personally thank him, along with the Nike employees and incredible athletes I have had the pleasure of working with along the way. People will ask if there is another chapter. Yes, there will certainly be another chapter. See you in LA.”
Now, Woods has shared the details on what that new chapter looks like. According to CNBC, Woods has inked a deal with TaylorMade. The agreement includes the development of a new apparel and footwear performance and lifestyle brand named Sun Day Red, which is inspired by Woods being known for wearing the color red on Sundays.
“Life changes and this is an important transition and I wanted to have a brand that I was proud of going forward,” Woods explained, according to the outlet.
The new brand follows Woods and TaylorMade’s equipment deal that was formed in 2017, CNBC notes. However, for Sun Day Red, it will operate as a separate business with no oversight from the golf company.
“There is no influence from TaylorMade on this brand,” TaylorMade CEO David Abeles stated. “His brand stands alone and is independent from TaylorMade.”
Starting in May 2024, Sun Day Red will be available for purchase online.
