Dwayne Johnson is working toward another win for his tequila brand.
Dwayne Johnson, better known by his professional wrestler name, “The Rock,” is an actor and the proud owner of Teremana Tequila, a spirits venture he co-founded in 2020. Within its first year in business, it found immediate success. As AFROTECH™ previously reported, it was on track to sell over 300,000 nine-liter cases. Forbes notes that this accomplishment set a new record in the spirits industry.
“I am so grateful and humbled to receive this mind blowing news – but I’m in this for the long term, and my goal is to build a MANA fueled legacy for generations of Johnson’s,” Johnson said, at the time, on an Instagram post.
Since then, the American oak barrel-aged tequila brand has continued to reach new heights. In June 2023, detailed by AFROTECH™, the company had sold one million cases in one year, an achievement shared by just 10 other tequila brands.
“The launch of Teremana Tequila has been an unprecedented and historic success in North America,” Johnson told Forbes. “It has far exceeded all of our expectations and is accelerating at an extraordinary pace towards its full potential. Taste, quality and affordability are the keys to Teremana’s success.”
Forbes mentions that in 2023, Teremana Tequila was the fastest-growing tequila company based in the United States. Now, the brand is poised for more growth.
According to The Spirits Business, Teremana is gearing up to establish a second distillery in anticipation of international expansion. It will be located on its Destilería Teremana De Agave land, the same location as the original distillery.
The Lopez family, third-generation agave growers, and second-generation distillers will oversee the production at both distilleries.
“We are committed to maintaining the high-quality of our Tequila as we continue to grow,” said Richard Black, Teremana Tequila’s chief executive officer, to the outlet. “Over the course of the last four years, we have seen such unprecedented growth on Teremana. I’m pleased to share that we are currently in the process of expanding our distillery in Jesús María and that we are confident in the supply of our exceptionally high-quality liquid. This expansion will enable us to uphold our small batch process, while meeting the increasing demand from consumers in the US and on an international scale.”
He added, “At the new distillery – which will continue to be overseen by the Lopez family – the same meticulous, time-honoured, and handcrafted process will be replicated with the addition of more small brick ovens and locally handmade copper pot stills – to ensure complete consistency in quality and taste.”
