Why is Bingo Such a big Part of Cruise Ship Culture?

Bingo has been a huge part of the cruise ship culture for several years now. There are several differences between cruise ship bingo and normal bingo though, and if you’re planning on traveling, then there are a few things you’ll need to take note of.

Cruise Ship Bingo is Different from Traditional Bingo

With cruise ship bingo, you will be paying on average $10 for a card. You will also get a discount if you choose to buy multiple cards. Carnival cruise lines offer $100 if you win, but other cruise lines offer winnings that go into their thousands. Cruise ship bingo is also very different in the way the game is played.

Online game variants, like bingo slingo, tend to have different themes. An example of this would be Singo Capital Gains or Slingo Money Train. You also have the option to win free spins, or you can take advantage of a no-deposit bonus. With cruise ship bingo, none of these options are available. You can play online games on your phone, but if you go to the bingo room, you’ll be presented with the traditional version of the game. To try and compete with online bingo, cruise ships tend to offer rewards that tie in with the spa experience. This can include spa treatments or several shore excursion passes. Some of them even offer free cruises, but this is normally only at big events.

Cruise Lines and Bingo Offerings

Royal Caribbean offers paper cards only, but if you go on a different cruise, you may be given the option to use an electronic card, in addition to your paper card. With the electronic card, you can have access to more boards, and they also have automatic features that mark off the numbers when they are called.

Even though it’s not as interactive, it’s a very good way for you to expand the number of games you can play at any one time. The fact that bingo is such a huge part of cruise ship culture, has also led to there being bingo-specific cruises. Advancements in technology have helped to pave the way for things like this, as the experience is much more convenient due to automated bingo cards and digital tablets. With that being said, even if a cruise isn’t known for offering bingo as a top entertainment option, it’s still very common to see games being played.

Some cruises tend to put more of a focus on live shows and performances, where people book a ticket and then attend either an evening or matinee performance. Of course, bingo and other communal games are often offered on the side, but not as a sole form of evening entertainment.

With cruise ships becoming more advanced, it’s also helped to pave the way for bigger and better packages. Cruise ship operators understand the competition they are facing with online entertainment, and are trying to explore new and innovative ways to offer the same experience, in a luxury setting, to every passenger.
