If you were a fan of The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show growing up, chances are you will recall the time-travelling dog and his boy Sherman. A new film version of the beloved show is scheduled to be released in March 2014 and will be produced by Dreamworks. It is said to have a new character that will act as Mr. Peabody’s nemesis. Much of the action from the cartoon show came from the characters happening on historical figures who were in trouble. It could be that this nemesis was added in order to explain why the pair will travel into the past and why they needed to help people like Sigmund Freud.
Understandably, some may have mixed feelings about the new film. The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle (2000), the previous film adaptation, didn’t do well at the box office. Some fans may still carry hard feelings over the film. Elements from Peabody’s Improbable History show have been changed and casts of characters were added. Making changes to a well-known series sometimes make people nervous. It is also important to note that the Mr. Peabody and Sherman segment had a short run time. It will be interesting to see how the film portrays the pair without it feeling too much like a Back to the Future or Meet the Robinsons wannabe . Only time will tell whether Dreamworks will do Mr. Peabody and Sherman justice.
