Prolific British actor Alan Rickman, best known for his role as Professor Severus Snape from the Harry Potter franchise and as Hans Gruber in Die Hard, has passed away in London aged 69. According to The Guardian, he was suffering from cancer.
Rickman was also known for his roles in Love, Actually; Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (for which he won a Bafta Award); Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street; and most recently, Gambit and The Butler. He also recently directed A Little Chaos, starring Kate Winslet and Matthias Schoenaerts.
Although Rickman was most known for playing villains, he was adored by all his fans for portraying truly authentic, even charming (we’re looking at you, Snape) characters. He will truly be missed.
