I’ve always been in pursuit of clear skin. I’ve tried every product, trick and remedy. What I’ve come to discover over the years is that the products and suggestions out there work, but only to a certain extent. Trial and error has proven that the clear, radiant look you so desire can be easily achieved with a combination of tricks and remedies. Keeping skin healthy takes much more than applying a dime-sized amount of scrub to your fingertips and rubbing it into your face in a circular motion. It involves taking care of the rest of your body too. After all, it is all connected. I’ll spare you some searching time with five simple tips that actually work. They are sure to have you on your way to clear and fabulous skin in no time!
1. Sleep
Did you know that simply getting enough sleep can help make your skin look better? Your skin cells need time to rejuvenate too, just like the rest of your body. While we sleep, our circulation increases, bringing more nutrients to the skin cells, which aid in the recovery and revitalizing processes of our skin.
2. Hydrate
If there is anyone that hates to drink water, it’s me. No matter how hard I try, I never can quite seem to drink the recommended amount of fluids on a daily basis. Lately, however, I’ve had extra motivation. Most of our body is comprised of water, which helps to circulate nutrients while flushing out wastes and toxins. If you drink water, you’re on double duty for your skin: you drink in the good stuff while taking out the bad stuff. Fortunately, there’s still hope out there for people in the same boat as me when it comes to drinking water. Find flavor enhancing products, like Crystal Lite or Mio, that are low in sugar and calories but high in taste. Products like these can make your agua more exciting and will encourage you to take another gulp.

3. Protect
Protected skin equates to clearer skin. There are plenty of things we should be protecting our skin from, such as the elements and the toxins we are exposed to on a daily basis. Perhaps most importantly, we should protect our skin from the sun since rays can roughen and toughen our skin. Prolonged exposure to the sun can also cause wrinkles, aging and even cancer down the road if proper precautions are not taken. Protecting your skin from the sun is easy. There are plenty of products out there such as Bare Minerals’ READY foundation that contain SPF and will give you the protection and coverage you need without weighing you down with the smells and residues of sunblock.
4. Cleanse
If you’re on board so far, then you probably know that cleaning the skin is a crucial step in the process. I’ve found that exfoliating products such as Clean and Clear Advantage 3-in-1 work best. This product aids in the treatment of acne while its microbeads exfoliate and cleanse the upper surface of your skin, washing away the dirt and oil it has encountered throughout the day.
5. Moisturize
Neglecting to moisturize your skin is like walking out of the nail salon without drying your nails. If you are going to invest time, energy, and money into the process, be sure to do it right. Moisturizers are crucial in keeping the skin hydrated and giving it a radiant glow. The key to getting the most out of your moisturizer is ensuring that you choose the correct one for your unique skin type and learn to moderate its use. If you have dry skin, regular use is recommended. If your skin tends to be oily, less regimented use of a lighter cream will give you the best results.
With these steps in mind, your skin will be on its way to being clear and fabulous. However, the most important ingredient in the recipe for clear skin is patience. Everyone’s skin is different and it takes time to find the perfect combination of products and routines that will work for you. Stick it out and you’ll see that the pursuit of clear skin is always worth it in the end.
